Lateral Roma is an independent art space located in the Appio Latino district of Rome, Italy. Lateral Roma was founded by Geraldine Tedder and Mathias Ringgenberg a.k.a PRICE in October 2020 and is run by a team of artists and curators, currently: Marta Federici, Jazmina Figueroa, Tobias Koch, Camilla Paolino, Jacopo Rinaldi and PRICE. We are a self-organized project broadening our program beyond exhibition formats into a wider field of exchange, production, and research.
Lateral Roma’s programming is based on lateral thinking. Lateral thinking, as opposed to vertical thinking, is rooted in the erotic; it is fantastical, even irrational thinking that does not follow an obvious train of thought. It challenges routine, pattern, and norm, representing their symbolic resistance. It is playful, sometimes strange and surreal, and follows principles such as mistake/accident/humor: “You can park anywhere you like, as long as you like, as long as you leave your headlights full on”.

Labjure, Jazmina Figueroa and Elif Satanaya Özbay
You are warmly invited to an evening of performance and listening with Edge of the Game by Labjure and Review by Jazmina Figueroa and Elif Satanaya Özbay.
Labjure presents her new work, Edge of the Game with stage design by Maria Jooyoung, who explores the conceptual fields of habitat through sculpture and context-specific installations. “At the edge of the game, she holds her breath. Looks down, learns to jump, lays new ground, defies the rules. Here, at the edge, it just might work.”
Review is a performative reading and process that began at the end of 2023. Jazmina Figueroa and Elif Özbay initiated the project to situate their works with one another and within the realms of evaluation, critique, appreciation, study, and assessment. Figueroa and Özbay use the review as a framework to think beyond cursory glances, and demand a second or third round of contemplation – focusing on what is lingering and deserves a once-over. The subject, idea, theme, or topic in their works is assessed in front of an audience, becoming recast, refashioned, and redone after each successive performative reading. This iterative approach acts as a process of thorough scrutiny, unfolding, and coming-to for the artists.
This evening also takes place within the context of Tongue Twisters, a program consisting of multiple appointments dedicated to the lecture performance organized by Lisa Andreani, Valerio Di Lucente, and Adrienne Drake. The performances will be in English.
